Welcome to Brosna

The Con Curtin Music Festival

Con CurtinOur musical legend Con Curtin was born in Brosna 1926 and spent his younger years as a blacksmith. He decided to seek a better life for himself and emigrated to London where he worked as a ganger for Murphy for 10 years, tunnelling beneath the streets of the city. Con, Ann and family bought The Balloon Bar in Chelsea, where many musicians from Ireland and beyond graced his door with their instruments to play at all hours. He returned to Brosna in the mid-seventies where he opened another pub and had many good sessions until he sold the licence in 2003. Con passed away on April 25th 2009 at 82 years of age.

The Festival in his name was established in 2001 as a tribute to Con. Con loved his music and enjoyed the different musical talents that came to Brosna over the years. We shall all miss his presence this year, but no doubt he will he will be watching us from above.
