Welcome to Tarbert

The Picnic Area and John Paul Jones

Continuing along the N69 Glin road the village boundary to the east brings the visitor to the Picnic area.  Here there are picturesque views of Tarbert bay, the majestic river Shannon, Leslie's wood and the County of Clare.  The daring naval hero, John Paul Jones eluded two pursing British warships in these waters during the American War of Independance 1775 - 1783.  The visitor can relax and picnic here before returining to Tarbert village. Across the road at the bottom of the little grass path leading to the shore is a Bird Hide with access for Bird Watchers.
