Ardfert is a small friendly village of 1000 people between Tralee and Ballyheigue. Ardfert means the Height of the Graves. Ardfert parish surrounds Ardfert and Kilmoyley with its beautiful castles, ringforts and churches. The history of the local Cathedral and Friary makes Ardfert a massive tourist attraction and an important site for academic investigation. The ancient St Bendans Cathederal dates from the 6th century. The ruin still remains in good shape and there are tours and talks to be had around the grounds charting the history of the Cathederal and local area.

Eating and drinking in Ardfert is a nice treat, with a handful of nice local  pubs which focus on both food and beers as well as a takeaway, local shops and filling station. The village has a community centre, health clinic, playground, post office and garda station.

The GAA tradition is strong in Ardfert. Ardfert Football won All Ireland honors in the mid 2000s and St. Brendans Hurling is a popular competitive club. The soccer club, Athletico Ardfert play in the Kerry District League.
