Scartaglen is a small rural village full of culture and traditions. It nestles on a small hill half way between Castleisland and Ballydesmond and lies within the famous Sliabh Luachra region of Kerry.
An annual traditional celebration or Feile Ceoil is held in the village. This popular festival attracts great numbers of people with local poets, singers and songwriters offering a wide variety of traditional entertainment. There is plenty to keep young and old entertained with a fairground and other activities.
In 2002 The Sliabh Luachra Archive & Traditional Music Centre was opened. Is a community initiative to promote & preserve the music, song and dance and unique traditions of Sliabh Luachra. The centre also hosts regular drama and music performances, rambling house nights and a variety of classes designed to preserve and teach the rich tradition of music, song, dance and storytelling that the area is renowned for.
